The Ask ❦
My team and I were tasked with creating a short-term fashion forecast and presenting it in a professional, design-focused format. Working in a group, we developed a 12–15 minute presentation that communicated a clear trend direction for womenswear.
Overall, the task was to deliver a well-researched, creative, and professionally presented trend forecast that demonstrated both design skill and industry insight.
The Process
Our forecast centered on disillusionment with traditional power structures and the blurring of class and identity through style. In a society frustrated by slow social progress and widening inequality, fashion becomes a form of rebellion—where wealth and status are no longer easily defined by appearance. This trend forecast examines how women's wear serves as a tool for social and political activism, challenging conventional notions of prestige and utilizing clothing as a medium to dismantle boundaries of sex, class, and cultural hierarchy. It featured women in traditionally masculine styles, such as tailored suits, as well as silhouettes reminiscent of the 1920s, when women’s rights were beginning to gain momentum and redefine societal expectations of femininity and independence.
-
Conducted in-depth research using fashion journals, cultural analyses, and recent runway collections to identify emerging themes around class, gender, and social identity.
Mapped key cultural and historical influences, including movements like 1920s women’s liberation, to connect past and present expressions of activism through fashion.
Analyzed the evolving target market and synthesized insights into a cohesive creative direction that guided the forecast’s visuals, color story, and overall theme.
-
Create a curated mood board that captures the theme.
Use highly selective, on-theme fashion imagery.
Focus on composition, style, and overall design skill.
-
Created six slides total — three for street style looks and three for runway looks.
Included five recent (1 year) sourced images per look with proper citations.
Gave each look a unique name and ensured alignment with the overall forecast theme.
Featured authentic street captures alongside curated runway imagery to illustrate the trend’s real-world and high-fashion expression.
